One Stop joins forces with Whywaste in the fight against food waste

Convenience retailer, One Stop has announced an exciting new partnership with the innovative Swedish food tech company, Whywaste. Following a highly successful trial, One Stop will implement Whywaste’s solution in all 1000 stores.

The collaboration started back in 2022 with a successful trial in 4 stores, showing impressive results, with an average of 14.3% waste reduction in fresh and ambient areas – a major achievement.

The partnership between One Stop and Whywaste is a significant step forward in reducing food waste and supporting One Stop’s ambition to reach net zero across its full value chain by 2050. Using Whywaste’s SaaS solution, retailers receive precise product expiration data together with smart markdown recommendations, ensuring that soon-to-expire products are sold, not wasted.

Richard Turton, Head of Supply Chain at One Stop said: “We’re thrilled to be working with Whywaste – we’re committed to reducing food waste and our environmental impact as much as we can, where we can. The Whywaste software will enable us to discount products which are close to their sell by date at fair prices, giving our customers another great way to save money when they visit our stores.”

For food retailers, reducing food waste is not only an ethical responsibility but also a business imperative. According to a report by the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP), the UK food and drink industry could save an estimated £300 million each year by reducing food waste. This is a significant amount of money that could be reinvested in the business or passed on to customers in the form of lower prices.

Ben Holden, Head of Business Development at Whywaste said “It is always wonderful to see that retailers are embracing the idea that sustainability is an important part of their business. In announcing this partnership with One Stop we are delighted that they have shown their continued commitment to reducing food waste and giving their customers the best offers, together with Whywaste.”

One Stop is committed to providing their customers with high-quality products while also being mindful of their impact on the environment. This partnership with Whywaste is a testament to that commitment and a step towards a better future for the environment.
