So, what do we know about the crisp sandwich?
Known in various parts of the country as a crisp sarnie or crisp butty the British favourite would appear to still be a cherished staple of our comfort food culture. The beloved household favourite even has its own dedicated National Crisp Sandwich Day (3rd November).
Whilst the crisp sandwich was circulating in the 1950s, crisps really became a British household staple around the 1980s with brands like Walkers introducing iconic flavours including cheese & onion and salt & vinegar. The crisp sandwich crept into becoming a lunchbox favourite for many children during this period.
It’s difficult to really know who can claim to having ‘invented’ the crisp sandwich but what we can confirm is that they’re still a firm favourite. Love them or hate them we do know there have been
some wackier crisp flavours including Marmite, Cajun Squirrel and Hedgehog. However, head down to One Stop this week for your more traditional crisp flavours, ideal for a perfect crisp sarnie!
