One Stop fund bleed kits for Burntwood and Cannock communities

One Stop convenience stores have worked alongside Burntwood and Cannock First Responders to fund 27 new bleed kits in Cannock, West Midlands and surrounding areas.

Placed inside the current defibrillators in the area, the kits are designed to treat life-threatening bleeding which could save someone’s life in an event of an emergency.

Over the years One Stop have built a close relationship with the charity, thanks to local store Manager, Kerie Jay, at One Stop Sharon Way, Hednesford.

A bleed kit contains various items such as gloves, scissors strong enough to cut through clothing, pressure bandages, haemostatic dressing and a tourniquet (used to stop blood flow to a major wound).

Store Manager, Kerie Jay, who won Store Manager of the Year at this year’s Retail Industry Awards, has also dealt with the charity in her own personal life, so supporting them with their request was a no-brainer.

Jack Taylor, Community and Partnership Manger said: “Our stores and colleagues passionately support this cause year on year. When we were asked to support with 27 bleed kits, it was an absolute pleasure, we’re thrilled that we were able to fund these. We know it will continue to support the vital work of the amazing Cannock First Responders in their local community.”

Over the last 8 years, Kerie Jay and her team have organised many fundraising events to help support Burntwood and Cannock First Responders, such as riding a bike for 500 miles and sitting in a plunge pool. The store team also plan to run 500 miles, collectively, on a treadmill in store during the New Year.

Eddie Malpas, Burntwood & District CFR Defibrillator Coordinator, said: “These bleed kits alongside the Public Access Defibrillators will give more people a chance of survival when utilised where someone has suffered a catastrophic bleed or cardiac arrest. They will only be activated after a 999 call is made – where these are within close proximity of the incident.”

Some of the bleed kits can be found at Cannock Wood Village Hall, Norton Canes Community Centre and One Stop Chasetown.
